Weekend Plans: Hospital Bag Packing

It's finally Friday!!!!

Is anyone other than me excited by this sweet fact!? I know I sure am. I don't know if it the weather this week, or the fact that I have a nasty cold, or possibly the fact that every afternoon I feel like Bella from Twilight with Lilly beating me up from the inside...but this week has felt long. I am ready for a relaxing weekend at home!

On the agenda for this weekend along with a couple other things, is packing mine and Lilly's hospital bags. If you know me at all, you know that I am not a light packer. Nope. I usually pack many more outfits than  needed, too many pairs of shoes, and necklaces/accessories for each outfit (for vacation). Now, I realize that I won't be needed all of that for our stay at the hospital but I am not sure exactly what we will be needing. That's where you come in! :) I would love to know what you think we should pack, either from your experience or even if you aren't a Mom yet and just think of something that we should be sure to have! I'd love to get your feedback so we can be sure to have everything we could possibly need at the hospital. Since our hospital is about 30 minutes from our house, it wouldn't be entirely convenient to run and get something...but the good news is that it wouldn't be impossible either!

Things I plan on packing/taking (for me):
1) chargers for phone and camera
2) laptop
3) hospital Gown (yes, I ordered my own from here)
4) makeup-I think I'll feel 10x better if I can look decent...
5) shampoo/conditioner
6) lotion (for me, not baby)
7) maternity Sweats
8) T-shirts
9) socks
10) chapstick
11) all the diabetes supplies you can imagine-I will be managing that on my own, not the nurses
a) syringes
b) strips/meter
c) insulin
d) pump infusion sites
e) glucose tabs
12) my contacts and glasses
12) going home outfit-though I am not sure what that will be yet...ideas?

For Lilly I plan on taking a couple outfits for during our stay at the hospital, plus her going home outfit. I also plan on taking my breast pump. Anything else we would need for her at the hospital?

Shoot all your ideas my way! :)

Hope everyone has a lovely Friday!

I have heard to bring your own pain reliever and creams and such because they will charge you TONS for them. A friend of mine paid like $8 per dose of Advil in the hospital. If your insurance coverage is good, don't worry about it...but you might consider that!

My friend Jenna just blogged about her hospital bag here- http://thebuettemeyers.blogspot.com/2013/02/what-to-take-to-hospital.html

flip flops for the room's shower!
also everyone says movies because there's a lot of downtime :-)

I'd bring earplugs and eyemask too since you'll need your sleep after and it's so hard to get quality sleep in a hospital.

I just packed mine this week! You may want to take your own pain relievers because the hospital will charge you for them (dumb!). Also, if you plan to pump/BF they'll recommend you continue taking prenatals, so I also packed my own. You might want to pack XL undies that will be kind of loose around your waist because of your c-section scar. I packed a couple of our own receiving blankets, just because I'd rather have the cute ones than the hospital ones. ;) I also packed a couple of cute beanies that she can wear instead of the generic ones the hospital gives you. I plan on using pacies with her, so I packed two of those in case she doesn't take to the hospital ones. I'm not bringing my pump to the hospital because I've been told your milk doesn't let down until a few days later once you're already home. But if you plan to stricly pump and not BF, then that's probably a good idea to take it so she can get the colostrum. Oh! And take flip flops because your feet will be swollen from all the fluids they pump you with. I'm taking my own pillow and blanket to have a little piece of home with me. :)

Coming home outfit after a c section I would suggest big and roomy clothing. You will not want anything tight on your belly. I packed my most comfortable maternity clothes.

You do not need much at all for the hospital! They provide everything you need. I way overpacked and it was just a hassle to have to deal with unpacking it when I got home with my sweet babe! I'd pack as light as you can. I'd say the only things you really need are comfy clothes for post-birth and going home, glasses/contacts, makeup (but I didn't get around to wearing any!) and a going home outfit for the sweet girl. The hospital will provide you with a hospital grade breast pump and the accessories, so don't waste your time bringing your own pump (and then you dont have to worry about cleaning it yourself!! :)). They will also provide clothes for the baby and diapers, wipes, etc - anything she needs while she is there, so don't worry about bringing anything. And most definitely don't waste space bringing books and movies and stuff like that - you will not have time for that kind of stuff!!! Esp if you are having a c-section, you won't be laboring for hours with time on your hands. Once the babe arrives, you will certainly not have any down time and if you do, you try to spend it sleeping :) Good luck packing!

I have heard the same thing about taking something super comfortable to come home in from the hospital. I have a pair of yoga pants that were kind of stretchy but have kind of lost the elastic (they were really cheap!) that I plan on wearing home from the hospital with a loose fitting shirt...although right now all of my shirts seem really tight! I remember one friend saying she bought a new shirt to wear home so she felt special too. Not a bad idea? I also am taking some of my own night gowns and a few nursing tanks. Target has some nice ones that are v neck. One of my friends says she still sleeps in hers. :) I've also heard chapstick/lotion because your skin will get dried out. I'm so glad I can look off of your list/comments as well! :)
